RECOGNITION

How to verify recognition in your own country

Uni Campus TürkiyeUpdated 3 min read

The competent body in the destination country decides how a qualification is recognised for a particular purpose. Depending on the system, that can involve a ministry, qualifications agency, university or professional authority. A Turkish university or recruitment agency cannot substitute for that decision.

Find the right body first

Define the purpose first: further study, employment or regulated practice. Use the destination government’s official service and, where available, its ENIC-NARIC contact to identify the competent body. A missing network page does not mean a country has no recognition authority. Confirm current contacts before sending personal documents.

Ask these five things, in writing

Send one message, name the university and the programme exactly as the university writes them, and ask all five at once. A single well-formed enquiry usually gets a usable answer; a vague one gets a link to a policy page.

  • Would a degree from this named university and programme be recognised?
  • Is recognition limited to institutions on a published list, and is this one on it?
  • What documents does the application require, and is legalisation or apostille needed?
  • How long does the assessment take once the application is registered?
  • For my intended profession, is any further examination or training required?

What the answer means

A positive preliminary reply is useful planning evidence, but may be conditional on your completed studies and documents. A negative reply requires checking the stated reason and any applicable alternative or review route. If the answer is unclear, follow up with the exact programme details before making non-refundable commitments. Silence is not approval, and absence from one list is not automatically the full legal answer.

Why regional shortcuts do not work

A regional or bilateral agreement must be read for its exact countries, degree levels, purpose, effective date and exceptions. Academic recognition, admission to further study and professional permission are not interchangeable. Ask for the agreement itself instead of accepting a social-media claim that all diplomas in a region are automatically recognised.

Verify the Turkish side too

The enquiry above establishes what your own country will do with the qualification. Separately, confirm that the university is a recognised higher education institution in Türkiye by checking the Turkish Council of Higher Education’s own records rather than the university’s marketing, and confirm the programme’s accreditation where that applies to your field. A qualification needs both to hold: legitimate at the point of issue, and recognised at the point of use.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Can an agency confirm recognition for me?

An agency can help you identify the competent authority and understand its published requirements. Only that authority can decide whether your qualification is recognised. Ask it directly about your specific programme and keep the written reply; an agency’s assessment or promise is not an official recognition decision.

How long before I enrol should I do this?

Before you pay anything that is not refundable. A written enquiry costs one email and a few weeks of patience; discovering the answer after graduation costs years. Do it while you are still choosing between universities, because that is when the answer can still change your decision.
