FIELDS
Communications, media and journalism
Choose a part of communications you want to practise, then compare the program’s theory, production work and feedback. Language needs depend on the audience and role; assess them alongside technical, editorial and ethical skills.
In this guide
Match language preparation to the audience
For reporting, editing, copywriting or public relations, examine the standard of written and spoken work the role expects. Practise interviewing, verification, clear writing and revision in the languages you want to use. Ask about language support and feedback on assignments. Do not assume a preparatory year establishes every professional language skill.
Investigate multilingual work through examples
Compare publications, campaigns or channels addressing audiences you understand. Study how they adapt content and which skills their vacancies request. A multilingual project can demonstrate audience awareness and editorial judgement, but nationality alone does not prove professional competence or demand. Clearly distinguish translation, reporting, production and communications roles.
Compare theory and production
BİLGİ’s media department describes both media production and social-science study. Use that as one example when checking how programs combine research, ethics, law, writing and production. Ask which equipment, studios, software and supervision are available to undergraduates, and how practical work is assessed. Visual and audio work still requires communication with participants and collaborators.
Keep a responsible record of your work
Build a selection of articles, audio, video, photographs or campaigns that shows your process and contribution. Keep research notes, permissions and credits; do not publish confidential material or identify participants without the required consent. Explain the context and revisions rather than relying on a final image alone. Use this work alongside the academic and experience evidence requested in each application.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Can I work as a journalist in Türkiye as a foreign national?
Check the route for the actual assignment with the Directorate of Communications and the Ministry of Labour. International press work may involve press accreditation and a work permit or exemption; student residence and a media degree do not replace those procedures.
How should I assess the value of the degree?
Compare the curriculum, teaching and feedback, production access, placement arrangements and total cost with your goals. Review recent student work and ask how the program supports the roles or further study you are considering.
