Studying interior architecture

Uni Campus TürkiyeUpdated 2 min read

Start with the spaces and problems you want to design for, then compare actual course lists. Interior architecture and architecture are distinct qualifications; the program title alone does not establish the professional rights you will have in the country where you work.

Compare the design scope

Look for the balance of spatial design, materials, lighting, furniture, technical detailing and building-related courses. Read studio briefs and compare how users, accessibility and existing buildings are considered. Özyeğin’s curriculum and internship pages are one institution example; use the equivalent documents for every university you consider. Ask the relevant professional authority about registration and signing rights where you intend to practise.

Build a portfolio throughout the degree

Document projects as you finish them: the brief, research, sketches, models, final drawings and reasons for your decisions. Explain your own contribution to group work and obtain permission before sharing client material. A portfolio can show your design process alongside academic qualifications and experience; employers set their own criteria. Check whether your admission route requires a portfolio or an aptitude assessment before preparing one.

Ask how projects connect to practice

Ask about recent site visits, workshop access, live briefs and the department’s placement procedure. Request examples of student work and ask who finds the placement, what supervision is provided and how it is assessed. A city’s building activity does not establish available internships. For a placement in Türkiye, confirm the applicable work-permit or exemption route, insurance and safety arrangements before starting.

Compare the full studio commitment

Ask which costs and facilities are included in tuition and which you must arrange yourself.

  • Model materials, printing, software and any required site visits
  • Studio access, assigned workspaces and accessibility
  • Tutor availability, critique frequency and class size
  • Placement timetable, travel costs and assessment requirements

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Can I work as an architect with this degree?

Do not treat an interior architecture qualification as interchangeable with an architecture qualification. Ask the destination’s professional authority which titles, registration routes and design or signing rights apply to the exact degree.

Is it taught in English?

Check the current program page and language requirements. Also ask which language is used in studio critiques, site visits and placements, and what language support is available.
