Studying physiotherapy in Türkiye
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation combines assessment, therapeutic exercise and supervised clinical learning. Programmes can introduce different patient groups and settings, so compare placement experience as well as course titles. Professional eligibility and permitted activities vary by country and workplace.

What the degree involves
Compare anatomy, movement science, assessment, therapeutic exercise and the rehabilitation areas in the curriculum. The linked Yeditepe example combines academic learning with practical and clinical work. Both matter: ask how students connect evidence to assessment and treatment planning, how practical competence is assessed and what supervision they receive. Confirm placement hours and settings rather than assuming every programme offers the same hospital, sports or community experience.
Language is a clinical tool here
Explaining an exercise, obtaining a patient history and checking understanding require more than reading lecture notes. Ask the department about patient-facing language at each placement, required Turkish proficiency and support before clinical work. English-medium teaching does not establish the language of every placement. If you plan to practise elsewhere, check how that country assesses your education, clinical experience and language evidence; neither practical skills nor registration transfer automatically.
Scope of practice differs by country
This is the detail worth checking before you commit. Countries differ on whether a physiotherapist can see patients directly or only on referral, which techniques fall within scope, and what title and registration are required. Those differences change what the job actually is, not merely how you get licensed for it. Ask the physiotherapy regulator or professional association in the country where you intend to work: what does a graduate of a foreign programme need to register, what is the scope of practice, and is there an examination or adaptation period? Ask the same of the Turkish health authority if you intend to stay. The answers are specific and obtainable, and they are better known now than after graduation.
Where graduates work
Possible settings include hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports services and community care, subject to professional scope and employer requirements. Employment and opening a practice are separate routes. Türkiye’s rules for independent health-profession service units include Turkish citizenship and licensing conditions; do not assume an international graduate can open one. For employed healthcare work, check health-sector approval and work permission for the particular setting. Ask for recent graduate outcomes without treating them as a forecast for you.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
How long is the degree?
The Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation bachelor’s route is normally four years, excluding any language preparation; Yeditepe’s published curriculum is a four-year example. This is different from a two-year Physiotherapy associate degree, such as Medipol’s technician programme: the qualification and professional title are not interchangeable. Check your exact programme, any additional semesters and the registration requirements in your intended country.
Is it easier to enter than medicine?
Compare current requirements for the exact programmes and intake; a general comparison is not an admission prediction. Physiotherapy is a distinct rehabilitation profession, not a route to becoming a physician. Choose it by its curriculum, patient-facing work and professional scope, as well as your eligibility.
