Studying pharmacy in Türkiye
A pharmacy degree and permission to practise are separate matters. In Türkiye, pharmacy is a profession reserved for Turkish citizens; completing a Turkish degree does not remove that requirement. International applicants should establish their intended country and professional route before committing to the programme.
In this guide
Five years, and what they cover
The standard pharmacy programme lasts five years, excluding any language preparation. It combines pharmaceutical sciences, laboratory work and practical training. Compare the current course plan and placement rules: which parts cover drug development and formulation, which involve clinical pharmacy, and where students complete supervised experience. Acıbadem’s faculty describes training across community pharmacy, hospitals and the pharmaceutical sector; ask your chosen faculty for its own placement arrangements rather than assuming those opportunities are identical.
Check the right to practise before the offer
The rules for dispensing medicines, using the pharmacist title and operating a pharmacy belong to the country where you intend to work. Ask its regulator which route applies to your degree and citizenship: recognition, examinations, practical training or additional study may be relevant. A similar curriculum does not establish professional eligibility. If you believe a statutory exception applies in Türkiye, obtain confirmation of that particular exception rather than relying on a general promise that foreign graduates can work.
What to confirm before enrolling
Ask where placements take place and who arranges them: community pharmacy, hospital and industry experience develop different skills. If you prefer pharmaceutical research, production or regulatory work, name the actual role when asking about eligibility. Some industry jobs do not involve dispensing, but that does not make every job open to every graduate; professional qualifications, responsibility for regulated duties and work permission still need checking. Compare the elective and laboratory options against that career plan.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Can I open a pharmacy after graduating?
A degree alone does not authorise you to open a pharmacy. Check citizenship eligibility, professional registration and the separate rules for establishing and operating a pharmacy in your intended country. Resolve those questions before using pharmacy ownership as the financial justification for the degree.
Is pharmacy easier to get into than medicine?
There is no reliable universal comparison: accepted qualifications, minimum scores and available places vary by faculty and intake. Compare the published international criteria for both programmes. Choose pharmacy for its curriculum and intended work, rather than assuming it is an easier route into the same career as medicine.
