COUNTRY GUIDES

How to study in Turkey from Uzbekistan

Uni Campus TürkiyeUpdated 6 min read

Start with the program you want to enter and the qualification you actually hold. This guide is mainly for applicants preparing for an undergraduate degree after school in Uzbekistan. University admission, permission to travel and permission to reside are separate decisions. Keep a checklist for each, with the responsible office and your own deadlines beside it.

In this guide

1. Check the route for your qualification

YÖK’s guidance directs international applicants to universities, which evaluate applications under their published admission criteria. Do not assume that one university’s accepted diploma or examination list applies everywhere. Send the admissions office the exact name of your Uzbek qualification, your graduation year and the years of school completed. Ask which criteria apply to your citizenship and education history, especially if you have dual citizenship or studied partly in Türkiye. Postgraduate applicants should use the relevant graduate school’s requirements instead.

  • Compare the program, teaching language, campus and intended intake on the university’s official pages.
  • Record accepted qualifications, any required exam and the application deadline separately for every choice.
  • If TR-YÖS is relevant to your choices, check the current ÖSYM guide and each university’s use of that result.

2. Prepare documents for application and registration

Create a clear scan of your passport identity page, school diploma or graduation document, and academic transcript. Then compare this working folder with each institution’s actual checklist. For example, Özyeğin’s application page asks for a passport and a transcript covering all school years; a diploma in a language other than Turkish or English requires a certified translation. This is an institutional example, not a single rule for every Uzbek document. An online application and final registration can require different document formats.

  • Ask which originals and translations are needed, the accepted translation language, and who must certify them.
  • Before paying for legalization, ask whether your specific documents need an apostille or another approval, and at which stage.
  • Ask separately about school-diploma equivalency (denklik), the responsible authority and the university’s submission date.
  • Keep names and dates consistent with the passport; ask the issuing institution how to explain any discrepancy.

3. Submit the application and read the offer carefully

Use the university’s official application channel and keep your submission receipt, application number and correspondence together. A conditional offer can still require final documents, a language assessment or other steps before registration; Özyeğin explicitly distinguishes a conditional offer from completed registration. Read your own letter rather than treating an email subject line as final acceptance. Before making any payment, obtain the tuition currency, what a scholarship covers, payment instructions and cancellation or refund terms in writing from the institution.

  • Ask the university to identify every remaining condition and the deadline for meeting it.
  • Separate tuition from housing, travel, insurance, translations and everyday living costs in your budget.
  • If your documents or travel arrangements may be late, request the university’s written options before the registration date.

4. Confirm the study travel procedure before departure

Check the Turkish Embassy in Tashkent’s current visa notice and ask the Turkish mission responsible for where you reside. Its notice directs Uzbek citizens travelling for study to the appropriate application procedure before travel and distinguishes the Tashkent and Samarkand consular areas. Confirm the route for your passport type, residence and study purpose. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that an e-Visa is for tourism or commerce; it is not a student visa. A tourism exemption must not be treated as permission to remain for a degree.

  • Request the current education-purpose checklist through the mission’s official website and designated application channel.
  • The Tashkent notice specifies a barcoded acceptance document with a valid YÖKSİS number; ask your university to provide the appropriate document.
  • Confirm passport validity and the documents applicable to your circumstances, including any requirements for an applicant under 18.

5. Arrange arrival around the university’s registration process

Before booking, check where and how final registration takes place, when original documents must be shown and how any language placement or preparatory study is arranged. Confirm the campus that actually hosts your program before choosing housing. Keep your acceptance, original academic documents, requested translations, passport and relevant travel records accessible during the journey, with secure copies stored separately. After arrival, contact student services and obtain confirmation that registration is complete; a submitted online application alone does not establish this.

  • Keep the university’s registration and international-office contact details available offline.
  • Check housing identity, written terms and the address before transferring a deposit.
  • Ask how to obtain your student certificate and where to receive residence-application instructions.

6. Handle student residence as a separate application

For a first student-residence application, the Presidency of Migration Management’s student guide describes university registration followed by an application through e-ikamet, a printed and signed form, and a complete document file submitted to the relevant university unit. Contact that unit promptly after registration and follow its current instructions. Confirm the deadline that applies to your lawful stay and file submission; neither your acceptance letter nor a travel permission automatically extends your stay. The migration authority decides residence applications.

  • Use the official e-ikamet system and the document list produced for your application; ask about address evidence and health-insurance requirements.
  • Follow the university’s submission and any appointment or biometric instructions, and keep proof of each completed step.
  • If you already hold a Turkish residence status, ask which process applies instead of opening a first application automatically.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Is every Uzbek school diploma accepted by every Turkish university?

No general acceptance rule can replace the institution’s criteria. Ask each university to assess your exact qualification, transcript and education history, and to identify any required examination or additional document. Meeting an application minimum is not an offer of a place.

Can I study in English without taking a Turkish language course first?

Check your chosen program’s teaching language and its accepted proof of language proficiency. An English-medium option may involve an institutional assessment or preparatory study if you do not meet the language requirement. Confirm any separate Turkish requirement for practical training or a particular program; do not assume one rule covers every degree.

Does visa-free tourism or an acceptance letter replace student residence?

No. Confirm study-related entry requirements with the responsible Turkish mission before travel, then follow the residence process applicable to you with the university and migration authority. Travel eligibility, admission and residence are separate matters. If you already have a residence permit or another status, ask how that changes your procedure.
