The document checklist, and the order to do it in

The list itself is short. What makes it difficult is that several items depend on others being finished first, and the dependencies are not obvious until you are blocked by one.

What almost every university asks for

Requirements are set per institution and per programme, but a core set recurs across the admission records in this catalogue. Treat this as the baseline to prepare and then check each university’s own page for what it adds, because the additions are where applications fall down.

  • Diploma or accepted provisional graduation evidence, plus transcript
  • Equivalency or authenticated graduation documents where required, by the university’s stated deadline
  • The examination or qualification accepted for your admission route
  • Language evidence, exemption or university-test arrangements
  • Passport or accepted identity document and requested photographs
  • Portfolio, motivation letter or academic references where requested
  • Translations and authentication in the format the receiving authority accepts

The dependency that catches people

There is no universal “translate, notarise, then apostille” sequence. First establish whether the original educational document needs an apostille or another accepted authentication. Then check the translation language and certification required by the receiving authority. MEB’s equivalency guidance contains language and document exceptions, so do not pay for every possible stamp without checking your case.

Order the work like this

Start with whatever has the longest lead time in your own country rather than with whatever is easiest to tick off. The sequence below reflects the dependencies rather than the order the university lists them in.

  • Compare the university, MEB and visa document lists; keep separate deadlines.
  • Obtain complete diploma and transcript records, or the permitted provisional versions.
  • Confirm authentication of originals before commissioning translations.
  • Arrange required translations and their accepted certification.
  • Run examination bookings and eligible applications in parallel where possible.
  • Scan every page clearly and keep dated copies of submissions.
  • Check where originals must be shown, and obtain a receipt if they are retained.

Keep your originals

Keep a secure set of scans and track where every original is held. Universities, authorities or an authorised application centre may legitimately need to inspect or retain documents under their procedure. Confirm the recipient, reason and return arrangements; obtain a receipt. Do not send originals to an unverified intermediary simply because they promise faster admission.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the equivalency certificate before applying?

Not necessarily at the initial application stage. Ask whether your applicant category requires MEB equivalency or another form of document authentication, and obtain the university’s deadline in writing. An offer does not waive a registration requirement.

Who can translate my documents?

Use the translator and certification method accepted by the organisation receiving the document. A translation accepted for admission may not satisfy MEB or the consulate. Confirm the rule before paying; do not assume a self-translation or any notarised translation will be accepted everywhere.

What if a document is in neither Turkish nor English?

Ask each receiving authority which language and certification it requires. A university’s acceptance of English does not make English translations sufficient for every administrative procedure.
