  1. Alsancak

Kıbrıs Şehitleri Street brings together shops and cafés; Kordon adds a waterfront walk. Alsancak Station is another useful landmark when checking connections.

  2. Konak & Kemeraltı

The Clock Tower and Kemeraltı Bazaar are useful starting points for exploring the historic centre. Plan time for the smaller streets and courtyards.

  3. Karşıyaka & Bostanlı

Across the gulf, the bazaar near Karşıyaka Pier has shops and bookstores. The Karşıyaka and Bostanlı waterfronts offer places to walk and meet friends.

GET TO KNOW IZMIR

A city to live in. Not just visit.

01

Look beyond the city centre

The gulf gives Izmir several distinct waterfront centres: Alsancak and Konak on one side, Karşıyaka on the other. Visit them before settling on a neighbourhood, and check the route from a specific address to your faculty rather than assuming every part of the city has the same connections.

02

Plan across the connected network

Izmir’s network includes ESHOT buses, metro, trams, ferries and the İZBAN suburban railway. İzmirim Kart is used across these services. İZBAN connects with buses and the metro; consult each operator’s route and timetable information, and check current transfer and refund rules before travelling.

03

Keep a day for the waterfront and old centre

Walk along Kordon, explore the shops and courtyards of Kemeraltı, or visit the Agora of Smyrna. Kültürpark offers another place for a walk and a break between cultural stops. Use Visit İzmir to check the locations and visitor information for your chosen route.
