Türkiye Bursları: the government scholarship

Uni Campus TürkiyeUpdated 3 min read

Türkiye Scholarships is separate from a university’s own fee discount. Its central application, selection and placement process has its own calendar, and the available programmes depend on your educational background.

In this guide

How it differs from a university discount

A university discount reduces the fee at one institution that has already offered you a place. The government scholarship is a separate competition, applied for centrally, where placement at a university is part of what the programme awards rather than something you arrange first. That distinction changes your whole timeline: you are not negotiating with a university, you are entering a national selection process with its own calendar, its own portal and its own criteria.

Check eligibility first

Use these published minimums as a first check, then read your application year’s call; meeting them does not guarantee selection.

  • Minimum academic achievement: associate/bachelor’s 70%; graduate 75%; medicine, dentistry and pharmacy 90%.
  • Age: under 21 for associate/bachelor’s, under 30 for master’s, under 35 for PhD.
  • Applicants must have graduated or graduate in the current academic year before August.
  • Turkish citizens and people who have lost Turkish citizenship are ineligible.
  • Already studying in Türkiye at the degree level you want this scholarship for makes you ineligible.

The shape of the annual cycle

The official full-time programme page lists 10 January–20 February for the main annual application window. Check the announcement for the year you will apply, including any change or extension; other scholarship schemes can use different calendars. Plan the documents before the call opens and retain your submitted application.

Read the support package as well as the stipend

The published full-time package includes placement, tuition, a monthly stipend, accommodation, health insurance, Turkish-language study and specified flight support. Check the terms for your award level and year rather than assuming every cost or journey is covered. Copy the current stipend and exclusions from the official award information into your budget; no amount is promised by this guide.

Apply yourself, and apply free

The official application is online and free. You can prepare and submit it yourself; optional help with translation or understanding the form is not an official application charge and does not buy influence. Keep control of your account, review every answer and do not accept a promise of selection from an intermediary.

Should you apply to universities as well?

Parallel university applications can preserve alternatives if their fees and offer conditions fit your budget. A scholarship decision and a university admission decision are separate. Before accepting another offer, understand deposit refunds, withdrawal obligations and how any later scholarship placement would affect it.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Does the scholarship require a language certificate?

The chosen programme may require an accepted language test. Separately, Türkiye Scholarships states that awardees without a C1 Turkish certificate must complete its one-year Turkish course, including those placed in English-medium programmes. Check the current award conditions.

Can I choose my university?

Placement is part of what the programme decides, within the preferences you express in your application. This is a real difference from applying directly to a university, where you choose the institution and it chooses you. Read how preferences work in the current cycle before you submit.

If I am rejected, can I still study in Türkiye?

Yes. The scholarship is one funding route, not a condition of admission. Universities run their own international admission processes with their own discounts, and a rejection from the scholarship has no bearing on those applications.
