Scholarships and discounts at Turkish universities

Uni Campus TürkiyeUpdated 3 min read

A published fee may be a standard price, an already discounted amount or an offer for a particular applicant category. Do not assume everyone receives a further reduction. The useful comparison is the payable amount and its conditions across the whole study period.

In this guide

The types that actually exist

These are categories to look for, not benefits available at every university. In particular, domestic YKS scholarship quotas do not automatically apply to international admission. Read the scheme for your applicant category and keep its published conditions with the offer.

  • Admission merit: the university may assess school results, examinations and the overall application.
  • In-study achievement: a separate award may depend on performance after enrolment.
  • Applicant-category reductions: available only where the university publishes an eligible category.
  • Sibling, alumni or early-payment discounts: check eligibility, dates and combination rules.
  • Government scholarships: a separate selection process and funding scope.

The question that decides your real cost

Ask how long the award lasts, which performance or attendance conditions apply and what happens after interruption, repetition or a programme change. Compare a first-year reduction with a multi-year offer on the same basis. Record whether a lost award can be restored and when a revised fee would start.

How the discount is usually calculated

Establish the base amount before applying a percentage, and check whether the displayed price is already net of the scholarship. Confirm coverage of preparation, compulsory practical training, repeat courses and other charges separately. A tuition waiver does not imply a living allowance, free housing or payment of every compulsory expense.

What to ask before accepting an offer

Put these to the university in writing, for your specific programme and intake. An offer letter that states the percentage but not the conditions is only half an answer.

  • What percentage applies to me, and on which fee is it calculated?
  • For how many years does it continue?
  • What academic performance keeps it, measured how and when?
  • What happens in a year where I fall below that — is it lost permanently or recoverable?
  • Does it cover the preparatory year?
  • Can it be combined with any other reduction?

A caution about scholarship promises

Use the university’s written award or published automatic-discount rule as the evidence. An adviser’s estimate is not an award decision, and an institution’s presence in this catalogue does not establish an agency partnership. Ask the university to confirm the exact amount, conditions and authorised payment route before committing.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a full scholarship at a foundation university?

Some institutions offer full tuition waivers through their own selection schemes. Check the international-applicant criteria and whether “full” covers tuition only or additional support. A high exam score alone need not guarantee an award.

Does a discount affect my diploma or my status?

A fee discount is a financial arrangement, separate from the degree’s academic requirements. Read any award-specific obligations and ask student services if you need to know how the award is recorded in official documents.
