GRADUATION
The final-year checklist
Start a final-year checklist for documents, references, finances and your next step. Ask each office about its actual deadlines and post-graduation services rather than assuming access ends on one date.

Collect the documents while you can walk to the office
Ask student services when final documents become available, which are issued digitally, and how requests work after graduation. Check the receiving institution’s requirements before ordering extra originals or paying for translations. Save the ordering instructions and your student number.
- Transcripts in the language and format the receiving institution accepts; request sealed originals only when required
- Your diploma, plus the diploma supplement if the university issues one
- A course content or syllabus document, which recognition bodies often ask for
- A letter confirming the language of instruction
- Internship and placement confirmations, with hours and dates
- The university’s grading scale and, if requested, a grade conversion prepared using the receiving institution’s method
Ask for the references before you leave
Ask academics familiar with your work whether they can provide a reference, what notice they need and how they prefer to be contacted. Share your CV, relevant coursework and intended application. Save current institutional contact details and ask permission before naming someone as a referee.
Resolve the three status questions
If your residence basis is student status, graduation can require a change of procedure even if a card shows a later expiry date. Ask the migration authority about your lawful-stay and transition deadlines, and ask the international office for help preparing the file. Plan any further study, work application or departure before graduation.
Do the recognition paperwork now
Ask the receiving authority whether recognition or professional registration is needed and request its document checklist. Collect the university-issued items and check whether authentication or translation is required. Preparing a complete file can avoid additional document requests, but processing time is set by the receiving body; there is no universal weeks-or-months timetable.
The small things that are only easy now
Ask when university email, library access and software licences change. Save your own work and permitted records before losing access. Check any bank, housing and utility account in your name, settle outstanding amounts and retain written confirmations. Keep a contact email that will remain available after graduation.
