GRADUATION

Working in Türkiye after you graduate

Uni Campus TürkiyeUpdated 2 min read

Graduation does not by itself authorise employment. A realistic plan checks the role’s legal requirements, the employer’s application process and your residence position alongside the job search.

In this guide

Employer-sponsored work is one route

For an ordinary employer-sponsored permit, the employer submits the application through the Ministry of Labour’s system. Domestic and overseas routes have different conditions. Independent and other permit categories also exist, so “only an employer can apply” is too broad. Check the route, role and employer requirements before starting work; a job offer or pending application is not itself work authorisation.

Student work rules and graduate work are different

The Ministry’s current criteria allow associate and undergraduate students in formal programs to work part-time after their first year, with the necessary work authorisation. Those first-year and part-time restrictions do not apply in the same way to formal postgraduate students. After graduation, ask which employment route applies to your new status instead of continuing under assumptions made while studying.

Your status changes on graduation

Plan the residence transition before graduation with the migration authority and university. A graduate short-term residence route may be available, but residence permission and permission to work are separate. Keep application and lawful-stay deadlines in your calendar; do not assume the expiry printed on a student card resolves the transition.

Prepare evidence for the roles you want

Read actual vacancies to identify language, technical and experience requirements. Develop relevant projects, authorised internships and references, and ask employers whether they can support the required permit process. Your languages or international experience may be useful for particular roles, but demand depends on the employer and occupation. Some professions have citizenship, licensing or other access restrictions.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

Can I look for work after graduating while staying in Türkiye?

Check your residence position with the migration authority before graduation. A lawful stay to seek opportunities does not by itself authorise starting a job.

Is it realistic to find work here as a foreign graduate?

Assess current vacancies, your qualifications, language skills and the role’s legal access conditions. Ask the university career office for practical support; a degree or language combination cannot establish the likelihood of a job offer.
