ARRIVAL
Your first week: what to set up, in order
List the university, residence and everyday setup steps before arrival. Put official deadlines first and adapt the order to your documents, status and appointments.
In this guide
Day one
Keep your entry record and travel documents securely, with copies stored separately. Check your permitted stay and upcoming university appointments. Arrange the transport and communication you need for the next few days.
The first few days
Complete the university’s registration procedure and obtain your student certificate when available. Ask its relevant unit how to prepare and submit the residence file through official channels. An online form alone does not complete the process: follow document, signature and appointment requirements and retain receipts. Confirm the insurance evidence or exemption that applies to your case.
The first two weeks
Compare mobile tariffs and ask a bank for its current account-opening checklist before visiting. Identity, address and tax-number requirements can differ by case and institution. Apply for transport discounts after checking eligibility. Use the list as a planning aid, with dates confirmed by the relevant provider.
- Photograph the entry stamp
- İstanbulkart
- University registration and student certificate
- Online residence permit application, early in the window
- Health-insurance evidence or applicable exemption
- Turkish mobile number
- Bank’s document checklist, including a tax number if required
- Student transport card application
- Test the journey to campus at the time you will travel, using your intended transport and checking walking segments and accessibility needs
The thing that is not on the list
Allow time for orientation and meeting people as well as paperwork. If an event conflicts with an official deadline, ask the university how to complete both. Social activities and administrative tasks do not have to follow one fixed sequence.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
How early should I arrive before classes start?
Ask the university for registration, orientation, language-assessment and accommodation check-in dates. Plan arrival around the steps that require your presence, allowing time for travel and document preparation within your permitted stay.
What if I cannot finish everything in the first weeks?
Identify the actual legal and university deadlines first. Contact the responsible office before a deadline if possible, explain what is missing and request written instructions. Do not assume a bank, housing or transport task has no time-sensitive condition.
