How to check that a Turkish university is officially recognised
Begin with the official institution record, using the full legal name rather than only a brand or translated name. It is a useful first check, followed by confirmation of the exact programme and the body that will issue your diploma. Keep those questions separate from accreditation and recognition in another country.

What the national register tells you
YÖK’s official university directory is a starting point for checking a Turkish institution’s name and official contact details. Match the advertised provider to that record, then follow the official university site to verify the programme and campus. A genuine university’s name can appear in an unrelated or misleading advertisement, so its directory entry does not validate every offer, branch or claimed awarding arrangement. If a name cannot be matched, ask YÖK or the institution to clarify before making a payment.
What recognition does not cover
Institution status, programme accreditation and the treatment of an individual qualification are related but separate questions. The directory does not establish that a particular programme holds field accreditation, that an overseas authority will recognise your degree, or that you may practise a regulated profession. Nor does the listing measure your likely experience as a student. Use the specific programme and destination authority’s requirements for those further checks.
- First check: the institution’s official identity and directory record
- Not covered: field accreditation for a specific programme
- Separate check: how the destination authority assesses your qualification
- Not covered: the right to practise a licensed profession
- Not covered: teaching quality, graduate outcomes or student satisfaction
How to run the check
Search the institution by its full official Turkish name, because marketing names, English translations and campus brands often differ from the registered name. A single institution may present itself under several names across different pages, and a name that returns nothing is worth investigating rather than dismissing. If you find the institution but under a slightly different name, confirm that the two refer to the same legal entity before relying on it.
Warning signs worth stopping for
These are reasons to pause and verify, not a numerical test for fraud. A name variation, office address or unfamiliar accreditor can have an explanation, but unresolved claims should not be treated as proof. Ask for documents and contact the university through independently verified official details before sharing identity records or paying.
- The name is close to a well-known university but not identical
- Claims of a degree issued quickly, or credit for unverified prior experience
- No physical campus address, or an address that is only an office
- Accreditation claimed from a body you cannot find independently
- Admission offered without any assessment of your qualifications
- Pressure to enrol and pay before you have checked anything
If you want us to check
Uni Campus Türkiye is a MEC Education brand. You can use the institution profiles to follow official sources, or submit a guidance request about the checks you need. Directory inclusion does not establish an agency agreement with that university. Confirm any proposed service and representative relationship before authorising an application. Admission, recognition and professional eligibility remain decisions of the relevant institutions and authorities.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Are all universities in this catalogue registered?
Institution profiles include official source links so you can check the named university yourself. Open the current YÖK entry and compare the official name and website with your offer. A profile’s source date is not a guarantee that every programme detail, representative claim or later advertisement remains current.
A university is registered in Türkiye. Does my country recognise it?
Turkish institutional status is only one part of that question. Your destination may use an official list, programme-specific conditions or an individual assessment rather than a second public register. Identify the competent authority for your intended purpose and ask about the exact qualification, study mode and entry year before committing.
What about branch campuses of foreign universities?
Verify the specific entity operating in Türkiye rather than the reputation of the parent institution abroad, because the two are not automatically the same in registration terms. Ask which legal entity issues the diploma and check that entity, then confirm separately how a degree issued by it is treated where you intend to use it.
