Studying engineering in Türkiye
An engineering programme’s title is only a starting point. Accreditation can provide evidence of assessed educational standards, but it belongs to a particular programme and period. Read that evidence alongside the teaching language, laboratory access and experience you will gain.

What international accreditation means
The Washington Accord concerns the educational preparation of professional engineers and substantial equivalence among recognised accredited programmes. It is not a work permit or automatic professional registration. EUR-ACE is a separate engineering-education quality label awarded through authorised agencies. Ask the authority in your target country how it uses either framework; academic recognition, protected titles and permission to sign projects may involve further conditions. A ranking does not replace these programme-specific checks.
Accreditation is per programme, not per university
MÜDEK’s 2026 register lists individual programmes, teaching-language variants and separate accreditation/EUR-ACE periods. Its dates refer to graduation dates. Match the exact entry, not just the university name, and do not assume renewal beyond the published end date. Save the current entry and ask the department how students are informed of future accreditation decisions. A faculty name alone does not establish accreditation.
Four years, and what differs between programmes
A standard engineering bachelor’s programme is four years, before any language preparation or extra semesters. Compare the actual course plan, laboratory access, design projects and compulsory placements. Ask how many weeks of placement are required, who finds the employer, which tasks count and how the experience is assessed. An arranged internship can be useful, but it does not by itself guarantee a job or make a programme better than one where students find their own placement.
Licensing, where it applies
Check the actual engineering work you plan to do, not only the country. Protected titles, independent practice and project-signing responsibilities may have different requirements. In Türkiye, foreign engineers should check work permission and the relevant TMMOB chamber’s temporary-membership process. The chamber distinguishes Turkish graduates from applicants with overseas qualifications. Ask what applies to your degree and planned duties; programme accreditation cannot replace those individual checks.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
How do I check whether a programme is MÜDEK accredited?
Search the current MÜDEK register for the exact programme and language, then read the dates and explanatory notes. Check the separate EUR-ACE column if that label matters to your plans. Recheck before graduation; a present accreditation period does not promise a later renewal.
Does EUR-ACE mean my degree is valid in Europe?
EUR-ACE indicates that a programme has met the label’s engineering-education standards. It can support recognition decisions, but it does not automatically authorise professional practice throughout Europe. Ask your destination’s academic and professional authorities which additional steps apply.
Is engineering taught in English?
Teaching language varies by programme, including English, Turkish and mixed-language routes. Check the official programme record and language-preparation rules for your intake, plus the language used in placements. A university’s English website does not establish the language of every department.
