Aviation and pilot training in Türkiye
Start by separating flying from non-flying roles. A university can teach aviation management without providing pilot training, while a professional-flight programme may integrate academic study with training at an approved flight school. An academic diploma, a pilot licence and an airline job remain different outcomes.

The degree and the licence are different things
SHGM distinguishes private and commercial pilot licences; training, examinations, flying experience, skill tests and medical fitness form part of the licensing route. Ask the programme which licence and ratings you can obtain, which organisation delivers the flying and what its current approval covers. A course described as ATPL training should not be read as a promise of an unrestricted airline-transport licence at graduation. Ask what further experience, testing or type training remains, and separate those requirements from an employer’s recruitment process.
The medical certificate comes first
Obtain advice from an SHGM-authorised aeromedical provider before paying substantial non-refundable training fees. Commercial pilot routes require the relevant Class 1 medical certification; a general medical report is not a substitute. Ask which initial assessment your intended route needs, who may issue it, how renewals work and what limitations or further assessments mean for you. Do not decide eligibility from a symptom list online: the authorised assessment and the applicable aviation-medical rules determine the result.
Build a complete training budget
Flight training may be priced separately from university tuition, but the arrangement is programme-specific and not always billed by the hour. Özyeğin’s international fees page, for example, lists an AYJET flight-school fee separately from professional-flight tuition. Obtain a written breakdown for your intake covering included flight and simulator hours, extra or repeated training, tests, medical examinations, taxes, payment currency and refunds. Ask whether later type training is included. Compare those terms rather than using the academic tuition figure as the full cost.
Where the licence is valid
Before training, ask the civil aviation authority in the country where you intend to fly how it handles a Turkish-issued licence and the specific ratings you expect to hold. Validation or conversion may involve additional conditions; a university’s international partnerships do not settle that decision. Non-flying aviation roles have different qualification and employment rules, so check them separately instead of assuming a pilot-licence rule applies to aviation management.
A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Will a university aviation degree make me a pilot?
Not by itself. Verify whether the programme includes approved flight training, which licence and ratings successful completion supports, and what remains afterwards. University graduation, regulatory approval and airline recruitment are separate decisions.
Is aviation management a safer choice?
It is a different course and career direction, not a guaranteed fallback. It normally does not require the flying hours or pilot medical certificate of a pilot-training route, but particular ground roles can have their own health, security, language or professional conditions. Compare the management curriculum and relevant placements with work you actually want to do.
